A Tasty Food Experience that is as much Fun to Cook as it is to Eat!
We reviewed Winnipeg’s newest Korean BBQ & Hot Pot Restaurant! There is so much to say about this amazing restaurant that we're doing our review in two parts. Here is part one.
Korean BBQ and Chinese hot pot are two of the ultimate Asian food eating experiences. And now you can enjoy both in one place! Seoul Korean BBQ and Morals Village Hot Pot are both operated under one roof, located at 1855 Pembina Hwy #102 in Winnipeg.
Firstly, we found that this Korean BBQ restaurant is a much elevated experience from any other one of it's kind in the city. The seating is spacious and comfortable, especially if you are with a few friends, which I highly recommend. It is also bright and tidy. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and courteous. They checked on us a few times and made some suggestions of different combinations to try. This is really nice, especially for those who might be trying Korean BBQ or Hot pot for the first time.
Sitting with friends and socializing while you eat is half the fun! They can seat up to 12 people together if you’re celebrating a birthday or any special occasion. The front of the restaurant is for those who would like to enjoy Korean grilling, and the back of the restaurant is equipped for hot pot. We dinned with friends and family on our visit. Three of us choose the BBQ grill while the other 4 went for the hot pot! It was a tough decision because everything looks so good - you just want to try everything! The choice is yours. Here are just a few photos of the amazing spread of different meat that’s laid out for you to choose from!
This is a view inside the walk up cooler selection which allows you to choose from a huge selection of meat, seafood, veggies and a plethora of other Asian ingredients! It continues on two sides like the great wall of China! There is something for everyone! I have to say, all the food is beautifully displayed. It all looks so good that you want to grab a few the moment you walk in!
It was really fun to mix our own "special blend" at the sauce bar! Choose the flavors that you like and add them to your grilled meat or use as a hot pot condiment. We did both :-) Choose from: peppercorn oil, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, oyster sauce, satay sauce, chive flower sauce, fermented bean curd, garlic paste, chili oil, soy sauce, black vinegar, green onion, cilantro and spicy dipping powder. My advice: be adventurous! The flavor combinations are endless!
The photo below is what we decided on for our first round. Both the grill and hot pot are all you can eat. I recommend pacing yourself. Take a few things, grill, chat with friends, have fun, repeat :-)
This brings me to one of the best features of Seoul Korean BBQ: all the food items are in walk up coolers so you can look at the items that you may be interested in trying. Choose what you want and then go back to your table and continue the grilling fun. This setup is in stark contrast to other BBQ restaurants where you have to order off a piece of paper, then wait until you get it and then repeat the process when you want more food items. At Seoul Korean BBQ everything is there for you to take! Do you like what you see? Take it and try! You’ll be surprised how many new favorite flavors you experience. Their setup really keep the party going!
Sauces at the table include: honey mustard, red pepper paste, Korean style soybean paste, Korean style sweet and sour sauce and dry BBQ dipping sauce.
Our friends decided on a cozy hot pot experience. The hot pot area is set up for 4-6 people per table. They can also accommodate groups of up to 12 for those who have a bigger celebration. Each of us could choose our own hot pot soup base which was really nice because I like things more spicy while the others settled on a tamer flavor base.
The process for hot pot is just as simple as the Korean BBQ. Walk over to the coolers, take your flavor soup base back to your table, pick up your choice of food and let the fun begin! And believe me when I say, hot pot and Korean grill are all about eating, socializing and having fun! Below are just some of the other hot pot ingredients to choose from. The many different types of meat can of course be used for grilling or hot pot.
There is so much more to say about our grill and hot pot experience at Seoul Korean BBQ and Morals Village Hot Pot. Check back for part 2 coming soon!
