The 7th Day of the Chinese New Year Is Everyone's Birthday

Posted by on

Today is the 7th day of the Chinese New Year.  A day we call "Ren Ri" -  celebration for all people.

Some traditions call for making 7 different dishes to enjoy with friends and family. While the Chinese new year is a 15 days event, the 7th day marks an unofficial end to major celebrations. Most city dwelling Chinese would return to their jobs on the 8th day of the New Year.

On this auspicious day, another fabulous feast is only to be expected!  We are ordering in a specialty new year dish today from one of our favourite Chinese restaurants in Winnipeg to celebrate this special day.

This is call the "Poon Choy", literally translated to dishes served in a tub, or basin.

In the "poon", delicious and meaningful dishes are arranged in layers. If you do not have time to make your seven plus dishes for this 7th day of the new year, you can order a Poon Choy and celebrate in style!

This is also a great time to try some really authentic Chinese desserts :-) Yum!
